Age to hold a living

I'm trying to piece together the timeframe of the Darcy/Wickham backstory, and I remember Wickham saying that the living Darcy's father had held for him became available exactly when he was 'of an age to hold it'. Also, in NA, Catherine's brother seems to be planning on waiting several years to marry Isabella, because he's not yet old enough to hold the living his father intends to give him. Was there a set minimum age, or was he referring to finishing his studies?

Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me!
