It's quite correct that transmission of titles was not the same thing as entailment of estates. Even if entailment of estates by gender was possible, no-one would want to create an entail which would have the effect of allowing a woman (say a daughter) to inherit an estate, because before the Married Woemn's Property Acts, a married woman's property became her husbands. So having an entail which descende to a daughter who then married would definitely not keep a property in the family.
