When did the golden guinea turn into a sovereign? Was a sovereign gold? What did it look like? Did the guineas continue to be circulated after pounds were introduced?
(I know if I could find a copy of Heyer's "The Toll-gate" I could probably work it out, but I cannot.)
And as another sidetrack...I've known a song that talks of a "silver pound"..any thoughts on that one?
