] I find this fascinating , for several reasons- not simply because Jane was excercizing her imagination. Did she have permission to tear out the sheet of paper?

And if not, what did Papa Austen have to say? How were girls punished for such a thing. I mean the church books were hardly meant for such playful purposes. How old could she have been? Not too young - I imagine in order to find such scribblings exciting you need to be at least ten years old. Did she do it on her own or was Cassandra part of the fun. Perhaps they were hiding under that yew-tree giggling their bonnets off.
