] The problem is that you can't trust these portraits. In some cases there may be a likeness with the person depicted,in others not. But you don't know when.
In the new magazine "Jane Austen's Regency World", the Jane Austen Centre had a forensic artist create a portrait of her as she may have appeared while living in Bath. She used portraits for her family as well as varied physical descriptions to do it. Quite interesting reading.
