Question about being "out"

Hello,

I'm sorry for repeating if this question has been asked already but i still have some doubts about a girl's being "out". I get the general idea that as in out, she attends all adult social functions and is ready for suitors and marriage but if a girl is not out, what all is she restricted from?

For instance, had Lydia from P&P not been out, does that mean she would not have been allowed to "date" Denny or other soldiers (as in spend time on her own with them) or would it also mean that she wouldn't be allowed to attend the Meryton Assembly and Netherfield Ball? Or does it plainly mean that she can't interact much with men?

Thanks
Mona

Question about being "out"
It's an iffy question.
Depends on how they come to meet
And in P&P, there's this exchange between...
older daughters marrying before younger ones are out
