] In connection to my previous message, I found that there is different information about the knighthood Francis-William Austen got. Mostly it says KCB but some sources have GCB, and some have both!

According to Jane Austen's Sailor Brothers (pub. 1905), by J.H. Hubback and Edith C. Hubback*,

Francis Austen "had been awarded his C.B. in 1815, on the institution of that distinction. ... At the last investiture by King William IV, in 1837 he received the honour of K.C.B. ..." and "In 1860 Sir Francis received the G.C.B. ..."

* John H. Hubback and his daughter Edith C. Hubback are decendents of Francis Austen, grandson & great-granddaughter, respectively.
