The Lloyds and JA's family
In Response To: M. T. Who was Martha Lloyd? ()

] What can we say about her? I don't know much..I wish I knew more. Any thoughts on the lady, and her influence on our author?

The Lloyd's and the Austen's maternal lines went back a long way together. Both Martha Lloyd and JA were cousins to the same Mary Leigh that left Stoneleigh to JA's cousin Thomas. JA was 6th cousin to Mary Leigh (Through Mary's father, Sir Thomas Leigh 4th Lord Leigh). Martha Lloyd was Mary Leigh's 2nd cousin (Through Mary's mother, Maria Rebecca Craven). Rather like the Bennet/Collin entail, a distant male relative of JA inherited Stoneleigh rather than the fairly close female relatives of Martha Lloyd.

As aforementioned, Mary Lloyd (Martha's sister) married JA's brother so Martha and JA would have been termed "sisters" or "sisters-in-law" at least (Did Martha join the household at a point where their mutual "brother", James Austen, was contributing to expenses?). JA's sister Cassandra was engaged to Martha's cousin, the Rev. Thomas Fowles. Interestingly, Martha's cousin Lord William Craven married an Anne Tilney, daughter of Frederick Tilney and one of her ggg uncles married an Elizabeth Fairfax.
