Just a couple of additions. I believe that the South Devons (Exeter) did a stint in Hampshire, which means they would have been stationed very close to Steventon-at Whichurch and Overton,and doubltess the officers attended balls at the Basingstoke Assmblies. Perhaps one day we could find their regimental list, too.

The Derbyshires being in Hertfordshire in 1794-95 is also quite well established, so that Mr Darcy would have known many of the officers personally, as Wickham , we are told, did.

I wonder if it's common knowledge just how big the "whole campful of soldiers" was at Brighton..... you list several regiments. Any ideas on exactly how many men that would mean? Two thousand? Five thousand? I do feel rather sorry for the Brighton locals, having so many land on them every summer, and camping out in the fields until their barracks were built....
