This leads me to the question what could be said about people without risk of being sued? I mean wasn't there even laws agains defaming the Royals? As I'm sure there was against denial of God? Perhaps the latter was more serious?

Can anyone develop a little on this subject? What exactly was the position of the King in relation to the parliament? And what power did he have? How had it changed from earlier in the 18th century and how (if) it changed into Victorian times?

I find it difficult to come to grips with this time of seeming contradictions. It's must be the great changes that takes place. It feels both oldfashioned and modern at the same time. Just as Jane Austen in her letters.
