That convenient circus

In P2, a circus passes by, conveniently drawing attention so that Wentworth and Anne can have a public smooch. I've never been taken by the idea of them kissing in the street, but a re-watch of P2 makes me wonder about the circus itself.

Were there travelling circuses in 1814? Did they have wild beasts? Would they have paraded through the streets of Bath? It looks vaguely Victorian to me, but I am almost completely ignorant about circuses in JA's period, so I'm quite likely wrong. Does anyone know any handy links to the history of circuses?
