I read a comment by Nelson Shanks (who painted a well-known portrait of the late Princess of Wales) that the average young lady in the 19th century recieved a much better education and training in art (drawing and painting) than art schools offer today. As I am a current art student, I was wondering exactly what kind of training young ladies like Emma, Anne or Marianne might have had.
