In the film Persuasion, in a couple of the scenes where they are at a meal, you can see the characters drinking from bowls. Is this accurate? I seem to recall learning at some point that handles for teacups didn't come into fashion until later.

Anybody know if this is so and when did what we consider typical teacups come into fashion?
