I recently posted at the P&P board that in the P&P2 breakfast scene where Jane receives Caroline Bingley's invitation to dine at Netherfield, it clearly looks as if Mr. Bennet is wiping his mouth on the tablecloth rather than on a napkin. I thought this must be a problem with the camera angle, but Joan, too replied that, as far as she knew, in Regency times it was not considered improper to wipe your mouth on the tablecloth. Is this true???
