I'm rather desperate to find any proof of American women who travelled back to Britain in the early 1800s. Obviously Austen didn't ever mention such an occasion, but it's hard to believe that some hard-nosed aristocrat in the States wouldn't want to send his daughter back to the homeland to find a husband. Does anyone know of situations where American girls returned to Britain?
