In Emma, after a dinner at the Westons, we read: "The hair was curled, and the maid sent away, and Emma sat down to think and be miserable." Question: did Regency woman sleep with curlers in their hair? I had somehow gotten the notion that their hair was curled in the morning, not at bedtime. Anyone know?
