In P&P, Georgiana has a companion, Mrs Annesley. I was musing on the P&P Board today about Mrs Annesley's future at the end of P&P. I assumed that her services would no longer be needed after Darcy & Elizabeth marry, since Georgiana then makes Pemberley her home full time. It was pointed out that this assumption may be incorrect.

What would Mrs Annesley's duties as Georgiana's companion be? Would she teach, piano or languages, for example? Would Mrs Annesley continue as Georgiana's companion after Darcy & Elizabeth marry?

What about Mrs Jenkinson, Anne De Bourgh's companion -- what would her duties be? Why does Anne even have a companion, anyway, since she lives at home w/ mama?

Perhaps there are no general answers to these musings? In any case, I thank all and sundry for any insight. :-)
