I'm not surprised youare confused.

You may not be aware, Gwendolin, but the book you have used is not held in very high regard here.

In fact it is going to be inserted in the caveat emptor category of our Reccommended Reading List( currently being revised by me).

I wouldn't take it as your only source for information: cross check it with at least one other. It tends to confuse the Georgian era with the Victorian and is not at all clear which points relate to each era.

I would reccommend you have a look at Jane Austen and the Clergy by Irene Collins,and, for a more detailed view of the 18th century Anglican Church and it's workings, The Church in an Age of Negligence by Peter Virgin.
