In Response To: Napoleon ()

] This is the quote from Monica Stirling's book "Madame Letizia:
] "When Napoleon decided to repudiate Josephine his brothers and sisters had hoped he might marry Lucien's daughter Charlotte and thus consolidate the family's power. (Such a marriage would have been permissable and not, at the time, unusual)."

Thanks very much for the quotation! I remain skeptical, however. I would have to analyze her sources on this myself and/or see some other reputable historians make similar claims before I'll buy it. Not unusual? Really? By whose standards?

I'm not trying to put you down, and really appreciate your taking the time to provide us with a quotation!
