] ] She had brought the money to the marriage but was left destitute when the Colonel found her.
] So, her husband got her money, and this went, eventually, to his brother (the Colonel) while her own daughter was forced to live on his (the Colonel's) charity. So, Eliza Williams Jr received as a charity what she ought to have had as of right!
On the other hand, Colonel Brandon's brother had ruined all his and Delaford's affairs before he died. It seems as if Colonel Brandon, in the five years he's had the estate when the story begins, had to devote all his time to put it back in order.
