Darcys and de Bourghs

] According to MacLysaght the name Darcy is often spelt D'arcy and this form is historically correct for those descended from Sir John D'Arcy, who was Chief Justice of Ireland in the fourteenth century. These D'Arcys originally from Arci in Normandy

An on-line site (under www.familytreemaker.com), created by Katrina T. Lawson, sets forth the essence of a 1901 work, The D'Arcy Pedigree. She traces it all the way back to the Viking invasion of France! The name seems to originate with William, third son of the the third Duke of Normandy, who was given the title Earl of Arques. (He was uncle to William the Conqueror.)This spparently became D'Arcie (with a hard c sound). In the 1300s, John d'Arcy, Kt., (who I presume was the Chief Justice referred to) took for his second wife Joane (sic) de Burgh of Maynooth, Ireland.
