This watercolor is of travellers grabbing a very hurried and impromptu dance on the road in rural Pennsylvania, and shows practices that Jane Austen's circle would have been considered extremely inelegant (there smoking was never done in the presence of ladies, and usually not indoors either, so that smoking while dancing would have been unthinkable, for example) -- but it gives a good picture of the shirt-and-waistcoat combination with the tailcoat entirely removed (something which is not very commonly pictured in contemporary illustrations)...
