Today there are still vineyards outside the city. Do you think the name of the river might also derive from early Roman vintners?
According to a book I have on the history of Vienna, Vindobona was founded ca. 100 A.D., while the vineyards weren't planted until the third century A.D., specifically to provide the Roman soldiers with their daily rations of wine.
The book does not give an etymology for Vindobona.
