How was Peregrine Maitland brother-in-law to James Austen? James was married first to Anne Matthew (daughter of General Edward Matthew and Lady Jane Bertie) and then to Mary Lloyd (Daughter of Martha Craven and the Revd. Nowys Lloyd).

The only Maitland that I know that was even vaguely related to JA was Renira Charlotte Maitland whose son, Admiral George Thomas Maitland Purvis married JA's niece Mary Jane Austen, daughter of Francis Austen (JA's brother) and Mary Gibson.

Would love to know the connection if there is one.
