] I am not sure though that JA would know of the fate of these girls, although her parents might (considering the guilt they felt over poor little George). Also, these girls were not Hastings's own children, they were his stepdaughters by his first wife
Hastings did keep paying for them as they became his sole responsibility on the death of Mary/Anne Buchanan/Campbell nee Elliot/Allot (no-one seems to be really sure what her name is). At the very least JA would know their names. Technically Eliza de Feuillide was their step-sister. I think by law Warren Hastings was their father and guardian.
As for his second wife, I know that she had a son (I am almost sure) whose name crops up in a book I was reading.
Anna Maria Apollonia Imhoff, nee Chapuset, known as Marian, did indeed have a son. She had Ernest Imhoff who died as an infant, then Charles who travelled with her to India and whom Hastings "loved as a son of his own blood" (taken from one of Hastings own letters in "The Private Life of Warren Hastings", Lawson) and finally a daughter Amalie who married Colonel Von Helwig. Amalie achieved some distinction as an authoress, according to Lawson. Other sources say the Imhoffs had two other boys, George and Julius.
And back to the S&S comparisons - Warren Hastings was fifteen years older than Marian Imhoff. Is this comparable to the age difference between Brandon and Marianne?
