Marone usually

I wonder if "marone" doesn't refer to the French word for chestnuts, that deep reddish brown sort of colour.

However, I can positively state that the word "marone" is used almost exclusively in the fashion descriptions of the regency period. For 34 instances of "marone" that I've found, there is only a single "maroon" reference.
