JA's MPs
In Response To: Mr. Palmer and Parliament ()

What are people's guesses about the political sympathies of various characters in JA who are, or might be, MPs? Here are mine:

-- Mr Palmer (in S&S2) is shown reading `The Porcupine' which was put out by William Cobbett in his radical Tory phase

-- With a name like Fitzwilliam and an uncle who's an earl in the North of England, Mr Darcy is a relation of Earl Fitzwilliam, the great Yorkshire Whig magnate

-- As Jack suggests, Sir Thomas Bertram is part of the West India interest

Any other suggestions?
