] ] (1748-1833) had his seat at Wentworth House in Yorkshire. A whig, he joined William Pitt in 1794, becoming lord lieutenant of Ireland. In 1816, he founded the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge. Both the Wentworth and Fitzwilliam families were Saxon.

] This guy was also the Earl Fitzwilliam discussed in a thread above (and mobs more in the archives). Confusingly he is sometimes referred to as the 2nd Earl (referring to the English grant of the title, and sometimes the 4th (the Irish title, a couple of generations earlier)

The earls of Fitzwilliam and the viscounts Fitzwilliam were unrelated--except possibly through Shelley.
