The Horses of Knights
In Response To: Great horses ()

] Great horses are very large horses originally bred, I believe, to carry a knight in his heavy steel armour. We know them as "shire" horses or Belgians.

Knights had four horses. The "charger" was used for exhibitions and tournaments. The charger was the largest of his horses and was also a pacer. The "courser" was used in combat. This horse was more agile than the rest. The "palfrey" was his good, comfortable riding horse. His last horse was known as the "battle horse". Oddly enough, this horse was only the pack horse and was never ridden. When the knight was traveling, he rode the palfrey and the other horses were led by a squire. Just a little bit of trivia I thought I would share.
