] From what I understand, they were called a "Punch" because they were compact. (Compared to the larger draft horses, they were about a full hand shorter and several hundred pounds lighter.) Perhaps this is because when you punch, you fist is compact when compared to your hand at any other time. Just a guess though.

] I learned to ride on so many different kinds of horses, I couldn't tell you what half of them were! : ) However, I have an adorable Appaloosa now. : )
