Kearsley's Traveller's Entertianing Guide through Great Britain (1801):
Part of this place is in Suffolk, and part in Cambridgeshire. It consists of one street. It is the most celebrated place in England for horse-races. Charles II build a house here for the sake of this diversion and endowed a free school. Om the l. are seen Gogmagog hills; and two miles on the r. Cheveley Park, duke of Rutland. Between N. and Red house on the l. is Chippenham-park, John Thorpe esq.
