Kearsley's Traveller's Entertaining Guide Through Great Britain (1803):

Ramsgate is a seaport where two very fine stone piers have been built, for the security of ships that come into the harbour. It has some trade to the Baltic and is frequented as a bathing-place. There is constant communication between this place and Margate.
