The authors\nhad both begun service at the lowest levels and worked their way to the highest\nthey could attain \u2013 he as a House Steward and she as a Housekeeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a3150 or guineas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Widow or other unmarried Lady, may keep a Young Maid Servant, at a low\nsalary; say form 50 to 10 Guineas a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a3150 to \u00a3180.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Gentleman and Lady without children, may afford to keep a better\nServant-Maid, at about 10 or o12 Guineas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About \u00a3200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto. A professed Servant-Maid of All-Work, at from 12 to 14 Guineas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a3300.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, with one, two, or three Children. Two Maid-Servants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a3400.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, Ditto. Three female Servants, or two and a Boy; viz.-A Cook,\nHouse-Maid, and Nursery-Maid, or else, instead of the latter, a boy,-with a\ngardener occasionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a3500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, Ditto. Three females and a Boy; viz.-A Cook, House-Maid, and\nNursery-Maid, with a Boy as Groom, and to assist in the House and Garden. A\nGardener occasionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a3500 to \u00a3600.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Gentleman and Lady with Children. Three Females and one Man; viz.-A Cook,\nHouse-Maid, and a Nursery-Maid, or other Female-Servant; with a Livery-Servant,\nas Groom and Footman. A Gardener occasionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a3600 to \u00a3750.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, Ditto. Three Females and two Men; viz.-A Cook, House-Maid, and\nanother Female Servant; a Footman, and a groom, who may assist in the Garden,\nand a Gardener occasionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a31000 to \u00a31500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, Ditto. Four Females and three Men; viz.-A cook, two House-Maids, a\nNursery-Maid, or other Female Servant; a Coachman, Footman, and a Man to assist\nin the Stable and Garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a31500 to \u00a32000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, Ditto. Six Female and five Men-Servants; viz.-A Cook, Housekeeper,\ntwo House-Maids, Kitchen-Maid and Nursery-Maid, or other Female Servant; with a\nCoachman, Groom, Footman, Gardener, and an assistant in the Garden and Stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a32000 to \u00a33000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, Ditto. Nine Female and eleven Male Servants; viz.-A Housekeeper,\nCook, Lady\u2019s Maid, Nurse, two House-Maids, a Laundry-Maid, Kitchen-Maid, and a\nNursery-Maid; with a Butler, Coachman, two Grooms, Valet, two Footmen, two\nGardeners, and a Labourer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a34000 to \u00a35000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ditto, Ditto.
