I believe that Henry has it right here in that the 'real' lady fixation was more Victorian. This pic, I'm sure, depicts that 'nude' state of dress we have read so much about, exageratively, of course. And these are French women. You can tell by the tall flowered hats, and the body stockings too. The British women made fun of these towering hats, or were astonished by them in any case, when they came to Paris during the Peace of Amens. And the French women found the lady's English style of dress quaint if not rediculous.
