] The Vyne is one of my favorite "JA places"- although, really the connection to her directly is a bit tenuous..
It is mentioned in a diary of Mrs Elizabeth Chute that the Chutes visited Steventon in March 1799, and later in April Jane (but apparently not Cassandra) visited and dined at the Vyne.
I wonder why Jane was so sarcastic in her letters about the Chute family? Did she mistrust their friendship? Were they too eager in their political campaigning?
And I wonder what the Chutes really thought of the small Steventon parsonage, coming from their grander living.
Did Jane perhaps detect a condescension? Or was she just too aware of her own less favourable situation?
