] I keep seeing mentions of `The Loiterer' in bios of JA. Is it available anywhere?
There is a Prof. Robert L. Mack at the University of Exeter who has a book 'currently in submission' on the site linked below. He says:
James Austen's The Loiterer. A fully annotated edition of the bi-weekly newsletter and review published in 1789-90 by Jane Austen’s eldest brother, James. This edition reproduces a definitive copy-text, and includes a comprehensive Bibliography, Chronology, Introduction (70 ms. pages), and Full Explanatory Notes (120 ms. pages). The edition is currently in the hands of Pickering & Chatto, Ltd., London.
In an email to a friend Prof. Mack said that he has submitted it to several places but no takers yet. I really would like to have a copy of it. The Loiterer may be satire, but I think that it would also give us a sense of the "times".
Yours, &c
