] See the longest nave in Europe, the tombs of the early English kings , Jane Austen's tomb and other treasures including the world-famous Winchester Bible.

] Jane isn't the only 'commoner' buried or memorialised inside the Cathedral, but if you look at the memorials of her time period, most of the others are of clergymen who had jobs in the Cathedral workings, and of necessity , would have been living in the city.

] There's a bell in my head which is ringing... something about it being said that JA had a great personal fondness for the Cathedral. In her time, there was a big memorial to Charles I in there (in fact there were two memorials to him!).

] The 'Early Kings' reference is to the mostly Saxon rulers of Wessex, when Winchester was the Saxon capital. There is an excellent medieval/tudor book collection attatched which includes the Winchester Bible.

] I was of the party that went to the Cathedral last summer. It was an amazing experience, but we concentrated on the JA aspect, and as it happened, we didn't have a lot of time for other historical bits, so I don't know if there is an easily available list of burials that can be provided.
