I have a question about Charlotte Lucas' hairdo in P&P2. Is it historically accurate? It strikes me as being much more late nineteenth than early nineteenth century. In fact, I have a photo of my great-grandmother and her sisters, taken around 1900, where all the women are wearing just that type of tightly pulled-back, straight hair, with ruler-straight center parts and not a hint of any bangs. Charlotte was obviously neither rich nor "a woman of fashion", but would even a practical woman of no pretensions wear her hair that way at that time period?
