I believe you are right Line. It was a later style. But also earlier, if you go back to medieval times. The curls and bangs that was so typical is missing. I don't know how strict women followed the current fashion. There are always women(and men)who doesn't follow the latest trends.
It's possible that they gave her this hairdo to emphasise her character. And she should not look too pretty because that would make it hard for us to accept her marriage to the silly Mr Collins. ( Although I still find her (the actress Lucy Scott) quite attractive, but that's me ;-)
