]In my family "toasted cheese" is grated sharp cheddar cheese on bread put under the broiler till the cheese melts. This comes from my grandmother who was born and raised in Westerham, Kent. Grilled cheese on the other hand is a slice of american cheese between two pieces of bread, buttered and grilled on both sides.
