I'm not at all surprised. Fire buckets were usually the "first line of defense" in case of fire, and were frequently marked with their owners' names. In some locations householders were required by local ordinance to own a minimum number of fire buckets. When a fire alarm was heard, people were supposed to either grab their buckets and head for the fire, or throw the buckets into the street where they would be picked up by others.

Having the owners names on the buckets greatly simplified returning them to their owners after a fire.
