divorce

Am I correct in thinking that the only grounds for divorce in JA's time would be the adultry of the wife? So, in S&S, Colonel Brandon's elder brother is able to divorce his wife, Eliza, for adultry? And then, even though the fortune was hers, for which his father had made them marry, she doesn't retain her fortune after the divorce? And what was her "legal allowance"? Some kind of marginal alimony? And she had somehow "sold" the right to that income to someone else? Does anyone have some clarification on this?
