Try Mansfield Park
In Response To: not at all ()

] My questions refer to S&S and Eliza's divorce with Col. Brandon's elder brother. It led me to be curious as to the mechanics/consequences of divorce in JA's time. Could you re-instate my questions?

Stephanie, if you're interested in divorce and, er, marital irregularities in Jane Austen, you should make Mansfield Park next on your reading list. I believe the divorce in S&S was a minor plot device - forgive me, it has been a while since I've read S&S, but I don't even remember the detail. However, in MP the social and legal consequences of one character's actions are central to the outcome of the story. That's probably all I can say without divulging spoilers. Enjoy!
