Penmanship/Handwriting

I couldn't find an exact place where this inquiry would directly fit so I thought this would be a good place. While not directly related to JA's works, I was wondering if anyone knew where to find information on the form of handwriting used in the late-18th C and early-19th C. I know that Spencerian was used (at least here in the US) during the mid- to late-19th C but haven't been able to find information on the form of script used - only the history of the quill pen. . .

I apologize if this isn't exactly where this would go - though related to JA's life and times. . .
