The first time I saw MP, the movie by P.Rozema, I was struck by one of Miss Crawford’s gowns. She wore it in a couple of scenes and it seemed to me so modern (and so different from the ones seen in P&P2 and in the other adaptations) that I doubted it was correct for the epoch.
‘Upon reconsideration’ I thought that it was intended to enhance her ‘modern sensibility’, in fact she wears it when she reveals her true character in front of all the Bertram family.
Nowadays moviemakers are generally careful not to make historical blunders so I presume that gown may well be true… and yet I can’t help thinking that it looks very modern… What do you think?

P.S. The dress I refer to is deep blue (black at first sight) with long lace sleeves (very particular lace, perhaps it is something else). The fabric seems very light velvet (I mean it has the appearance of but I don’t think it can be because velvet wasn’t in fashion during Regency), anyway if you have seen the movie you can’t fail to remember it.
Miss Crawford herself dates it: ‘It is 1806, for heaven’s sake!’.
