the season
In Response To: when was "the season"? ()

] There's something I've never been able to find a firm answer to, and that is, in what part of the year was the (London) season, and how long was it? I've read various vague hints pointing to each of the four seasons of the year. I recently read (and it might have been on this site, sorry I can't find the reference!) that the season went from Easter to June, which makes sense to me, but I just once again read a mention of it taking place during the winter months! So, when *did* the season take place?

] Also, is it possible that the timing changed over the years? After all, the English upper classes still had a full season right up until WWII, and perhaps beyond.

I always thought that the season started after easter had it's Highlight with things like Ascot, the Derby and Wimbolden and was over in time for the grouse shotting season which started on the 12th of August. I have also heard of the little season I don't know when this was though.
