..there was nothing explicit in Line's question.You might see a JA connection, Frank, but not everyone else will.And despite the fact that I repeatedly say that we are not a general history board, people have difficulty in holding that fact in their heads. This is the problem that led to people screaming for us to "firm up" the rules. So we did. If the post doesn't refer explicitly to JA and her characters, the poster will be asked to clarify -to make the connection to JA explicit. And if the poster isn't actually interested in discussing Jane Austen and her characters, then the poster may be given the opportunity to take the question to another forum. Dregston Chronicle is a possible forum, and the good people of Dregston have said explicitly that they would be happy to entertain such questions. Therefore Myretta was quite within her rights to ask Line to amplify, and to offer an alternative venue.

And now that Line has, in fact, clarified her meaning, and does seem to wish to discus it in the context of JAne Austen characters, we know how to proceed.... ;-)
