"Asp"
In Response To: I see there was an 'Asp' ()

A gunboat usually only carried a single cannon, mounted lengthways. The carriage for the gun varied. Sometimes it was mounted on a sort of turntable; sometimes it had a limited amount of play and you basically aimed the boat and adjusted the carriage slightly. I've seen pictures of some with one gun pointing forward, and another aft (a combination of a long gun and a carronade). They might add a few "swivel guns", but that's about it.

These boats are much smaller than a Sloop, which was what Wentworth commanded. Gunboats were mainly used close to shore, in harbours, or large rivers. In addition, the "Asp" in the table was sold in 1803, before "the year six".
