...I believe that Raeburn could have been a very likely candidate indeed, Ann. Good observation about backgrounds. My favorite Raeburn is of Sir Duncan Campbell . He sits on the wall of my office (or a good postcard of him does), and he looks very much like Col. Fitzwilliam to me ;-).

If anyone is interested in seeing him in person, he resides at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, one of my favorite spots.
