THE industrial town - depicted by Jane
In Response To: On servants and slaves ()

] ] Do you really believe that JA really appreciated our so- called inequalities in her society? i.e. servants, slavery etc.

] ] Is there any evidence that JA ever went to an industrial town, a coal mine or factory and saw the *real* inequalities there?

] Probably not.

Actually there is solid evidence that Jane visited the largest industrial site in the world at the time, and she used it specifically and by name in one of her books, and was pleased to be congratulated on the accuracy of the depiction.

However, she did not comment on the work or the workers, but used it as a useful backdrop for a courtship scene.

Make of that what you will.
